Policies & Ethics

I treat all of my rats as beloved pets and part of the family. Their physical, mental & social well being is of the utmost importance.
  • My rats are kept in appropriate caging that is kept clean and well maintained. With proper ventilation and appropriate bedding and toys.
  • They are fed healthy and appropriate food in sufficient amounts. Including a wide variety of fresh fruits & veggies.

  • Every rat is handled daily and has access to free range time out of their cage.
  • All rats are given adequate vet care

I breed for Health first and foremost, temperament & then with a focus color/variety. Currently my breeding focus is on Siamese, Blues, Silvermane, Dwarfs & Harleys. I want my rats to live long and healthy lives. Every single life I bring into this world is special & I take full responsibility for that life.

1. I breed quality over quantity. I choose to produce a small number of litters to ensure every rat not only has a home but also gets all the attention it deserves. We are very picky on selecting which rats to carry on as well. This may mean a long wait between litters.

2. I only breed healthy females with a wonderful temperament. Females are not bred before 5 months old or 250g in weight. Though I prefer to wait until 6 months/close to 300g in most cases.
My females retire at about 10 months to a year depending on the rat.
I will never overbreed a female and let her have plenty of time to rest between litters. Most does only will have two litters in their life and get at the least a month between weaning their babies and mating again.

3. I will never breed rats who have shown signs of aggression or that have had any signs or issues with their health. Any signs of aggression or health issues & they will be retired.

4. I do not keep my rats in racks. Even my breeding pairs are kept in cages when they are not mating/have babies. I do use large bin cages as maternity cages for the safety of the babies. They are given lots of space & kept indoors, inside my home.
I treat my mommies with respect & love. They are spoiled queens! The babies get all the love and comforts as well.

5. All babies are introduced to large safe wheels, hammocks, free range time, toys, climbing, litterboxes and fresh veggies/fruits. They are also have safe exposure to other pets being near their cages & usually children. They are also handled from birth.

6. I do believe in humane euthanasia if necessary to prevent suffering. Every kitten born is alittle miracle and is born as a pet with a whole lifetime ahead of them.

7. I breed pets only. All things need to eat and I don't hold it against the animals. But my rats are born as pets.

8. I do not currently ship my animals. I will do my best to travel to meet adopters though.

9. I ONLY adopt out same sex pairs or more, unless rats are already owned. Rats do best in groups and we do not support single rats.

10. I do not adopt out my breeding pairs or adult pets.  My rats, even the ones used to breed are my forever pets. When they retire from breeding I still keep, love and spoil them as pets.

11. Our babies will only be adopted out after 6 weeks of age or 8 weeks for dwarfs. I strongly believe babies get much more then just nutrition from mom and need to wait until they are old enough before going to their new homes. But they can be reserved at earlier ages!

12. Everyone interested in our babies must fill out an application to show intent and make sure potential homes are well suited for rats. I just want to make sure every baby goes to the best home possible.

13. Once applications are approved, everyone is put on a waiting list with first come first serve. With those getting to choose from the available litter.

14. We are a closed rattery for the safety of all involved. There are a number of contagious and very dangerous diseases that can be spread easily and wipe out entire ratteries or harm litters. This is also out of my home and we do not really wish strangers coming and going. We are an open book though and will answer any questions, keep up to date pictures of our operation, cages and play area. Any concerns you may have we will try to answer or show.
